The Story: Wild Hogs tells the story of four middle-aged men, Doug (Allen), Bobby (Lawrence), Dudley (Macy), Woody (Travolta), who have become fed-up with their lives. Doug is a dentist who is tired of being the wimpy dad that is not full of adventure. Bobby is tired of getting yelled at by his wife for not having a job. Dudley is a nerdy insecure software engineer who cannot get a girl. Woody has just lost his supermodel wife and has no money. The one positive in their lives is their motorcycle group, called the “Wild Hogs.” These four guys get together everyday after work to go “riding” on their bikes. One day, Woody (Travolta) says that they should take a road trip to cool-off from their lives for a week. They all decide to go and you can already guess that trouble is going to find them. I am not going to go into extreme detail. Let’s just say they wind up at the wrong biker bar, where these bikers hate the “suburban” poser bikers. A lot of stuff goes wrong and that is where the adventure begins. The Review: Overall, the movie does suffer from cheesy clichés, but still had me laughing most of the way through.
I have always been a big William H. Macy fan. He is definitely one of those actors that a lot of people sleep on. I thought his role in Boogie Nights was phenomenal. If you have not seen that movie, please do so. He was also incredible in The Cooler. I really liked how they made him the goofy character in Wild Hogs. He was the “butt” of most of the jokes, which ended up working out perfectly. (You will get what I mean by “butt” when you see the movie.) I also liked the Easy Rider reference they had at the end. (Easy Rider is one of those movies that is on the AFI top 100 list of all time. I personally think it was a little over-rated, but still a very decent movie. It actually contains my favorite Jack Nicholson performance of all time.) The Verdict: Going back to Wild Hogs, it was funny little movie. It was not anything special and I probably did not see as much humor in it as say a 45 year old man would (and it is definitely a man’s movie). I know I say this a lot about movies, but I just get tired of seeing the same old clichés. Can’t they come up with new ideas?

I was actually surprised at all of the gay
humor in the movie. I would say that 30%
of the jokes were gay jokes.
