ImageThis movie has, hands down, the most action I have seen in a film in years.  Shoot Em’ Up is Crank on acid. It basically sits on top of The Bourne Ultimatum and chills while doing a number two.  Now, as an overall film, The Bourne Ultimatum pummels Shoot Em’ Up, but I guarantee you right now that you will never have more mindless fun in a film in all of 2007.

I am still pumped up as I am sitting here writing this review right now. This may be the most bad-ass film I have ever seen.  At the same time, it is one of the most ridiculous and hilarious movies I have ever seen too.   Shoot Em’ Up stars Clive Owen (Closer, Sin City, Children of Men—seriously, could this guy have a better resume?), Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Lady In The Water, American Splendor) and Monica Belluci (The Matrix Reloaded, Irreversible (this movie is so sick that I turned it off about 20 minutes into the film).

The Plot: THE STORY LINE TO THIS FILM DOES NOT MATTER!  But, if you are interested, I will give a brief summary.  The only thing that matters in this film is watching Clive Owen just mow people down with guns.  The film opens up with Clive Owen sitting on a bench.  A pregnant woman runs by while screaming.  We later see that people are chasing her.  Owen, being the bad-ass that he his, follows her because he feels that she is in danger.  It turns out there a mass amount of people who are trying to kill her.  Owen has to protect her, while at the same time, helping her give birth to a child.  Essentially, this is the golden child.  You will find out, when you watch the movie, why this child is so important.  Owen finds out that there are mass amounts of men, all lead by Paul Giamatti’s character, who want this little baby dead.  Essentially, Owen’s character has to protect the child.  He hooks up with Monica Belucci’s character and they are on the run, protecting this kid.  None of this really matters because there are so many amazing action sequences, the plot kind of gets lost.

The Review: Overall, like I said above, this was the most fun I have had in a movie theatre all year (2007).  Now, here is where I have trouble being a movie critic.  THIS MOVIE IS NOT A GOOD FILM, i.e. if we were discussing the Oscars or Golden Globes.  This is the type of film that you go to watch and simply have a good time.

There are definitely more deaths than Arnold Schwarzenegger’s body count in Commando; which was a silly action flick.  Shoot Em’ Up is completely ridiculous and it knows it.  The film is just having a good time, just like the audience should be when they are watching it.

Some of the film's minor flaws were some awful one-liners and some bad CGI.  Other than that, the film is perfect.  Please go see this in theatres.  The chemistry between the good guy (Clive Owen) and the bad guy (Paul Giamatti) is perfect.  They were great together.  The movie is filled with SEX (wait till you see this scene when Clive Owen is having sex with Monica Bellucci while killing people) and VIOLENCE.  What more do you want?

The Verdict: Shoot Em’ Up receives 5 BDK’s because it definitely needs to be seen in theatres.  I was riding down the elevator after the film was over and some guy made a joke about needing ear plugs because it was so loud.  Then I awkwardly made a joke about the film having no violence and they laughed.  Can you sense the sarcasm?
