ImageI really have no idea what happened to Robin Williams.  I have been watching Williams’ films since I was kid and I would have to say my favorite film of his was Mrs. Doubtfire. I just remember growing up and seeing him in Jack, Aladdin and Patch Adams.  As I became older, I started watching some of his darker films, which I absolutely loved.  His performance in One Hour Photo was freaking weird to watch, considering that I have watched him as a comedic actor all my life. But, when I first heard about License To Wed, I really had nothing to say about it.  It did not seem interesting and seemed like another stupid comedy to come out with big stars. I was right.

License To Wed stars Robin Williams (Mrs. Doubtfire, Jack), Mandy Moore (Because I Said So, Saved), John Krasinsky (“The Office”), Christine Taylor (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Zoolander—she is also married to Ben Stiller) and John Flitter (Big Momma’s House 2).

The Plot: The plot to the film is very basic.  Ben (Krasinski) and Sadie (Moore) play a couple who has been dating for six months.  Ben decides that he is so much in love with her that he wants to ask for her hand in marriage.  Sadie says yes but there is one problem.  She wants to get married in the church that she has been going to since she was a child.

Reverend Frank (Williams) has known Sadie since she was a child and will not let Sadie and Ben get married in St. Augustine’s until they past a marriage course he developed.  This course basically puts couples through really tough times to see if they will be able to be together forever.  This is a problem for Sadie and John because they have never been put into serious situations that have ever caused them to fight or hate each other.

There are parts of the course that are actually funny, especially when Reverend Frank gives them two fake automated babies that actually cry, spit, fart and defecate.  Those things were actually pretty funny.  Other parts of the course deal with them having to be put into argument situations.  Over the course, they really start to love and hate each other, which is obviously the moral of the story.

The Review: Overall, License To Wed was one of the worst comedies I have seen in a long time.  I found more laughs in Norbit and Little Man than I found in this movie.  Like I said above, the parts with the fake babies are a little bit funny but the rest of the jokes were just stupid and childish.  That is not to say that Norbit and Little Man did not have a child humor, but for some reason it did not work in License To Wed

Reverend Frank had a little sidekick that could not have been more than 10 years old.  This sidekick was played by Josh Flitter.  I thought his part was just annoying and corny.  One of the other big issues was how predictable it was.  I could pretty much guess everything that was going to happen.

The Verdict: Please do not waste any money on this film.  I would seriously just wait for it to come on cable T.V.  Even then, I would be a little hesitant, hence the 1.5 BDK rating.
