I just want to let you all know where I stand on comic book films. I would say that my favorite series of films so far would be the Spider Man, X-Men and X-Men 2. X-Men 3 was a little disappointing, but not terrible. I absolutely hated The Punisher and Daredevil. I never even attempted to see Elektra.
The Story: The flick stars Nicholas Cage (The Rock, Face/Off (bad-ass movie that everyone sleeps on), Eva Mendes (Stuck On You) and Peter Fonda (Easy Rider).
The basic plot line to Ghost Rider
is relatively easy to explain, but the plot line to this movie was all
over the place and it really became extremely confusing. With all the
bad acting and cheesy dialogue, it was hard to concentrate on the exact
story line of the movie. The basic plot deals with a guy named Johnny
Blaze and his curse. When he was a teenager, the devil (Mephistopheles)
came to him and made him sell his soul to save Blaze's father.
Mephistopheles, played terribly by Peter Fonda, tricks Johnny Blaze and
kills his father anyways. Johnny had planned on running away with his
girlfriend, Roxanne, but after his father's death, he runs off by
himself. The film jumps many years into the future and Johnny Blaze has
become an extremely famous stunt man. I thought the stunt scenes were
the coolest part of the movie, especially the jump he does over the
helicopters. Roxanne, played by Eva Mendes, comes back into his life as
a reporter. Shocker, this is also when the devil decides to come back
and make Johnny Blaze the "Ghost Rider," which is basically a "bounty
hunter" for the devil. To add to the confusion, the devil has a son
named "Black Heart, " who is trying to kill "Ghost Rider" and retrieve
a contract of souls so that he can rule the earth. Mephistopheles (The
Devil) sends "Ghost Rider" on a mission to stop "Black Heart. " I know
this sounds extremely confusing. Trust me, it really is that absurd.
I will say that Nicholas Cage did a half-way decent job when he was not transformed into "Ghost Rider. " When he changes over to the "Ghost Rider, " they use a really cheesy demonic voice that spits horrible lines of dialogue. The worst character, "Black Heart, " was played by Wes Bentley. I have not seen acting that bad in a long time. Every single line that came out of his mouth made me laugh. The movie was too comical for its own good and had you laughing at stuff that was intended to be serious. The only good thing about the movie was the special effects. Watching Cage change into the "Ghost Rider" and then change back looked really good. I also liked how the villains looked, even though their acting ruined everything. I seriously did not know whether to laugh in certain scenes. Other than the special effects, the movie really has nothing to offer. The clichéd love story between Cage and Mendes also did not help much. The Verdict: Do not waste your money on this movie and I personally would only watch it on cable if you have nothing better to do. Note: I just wanted to point out one scene that was extremely bad-ass. There is a scene where "Ghost Rider" is being chased by the cops and drives over a bridge-like railing. He slides down into the water and then when he emerges and he flicks off the cops and drives away. I also really liked the scene of him driving up and down the buildings. Again these were all special effects scenes, which really were the only good parts of the flick. |

Peter Fonda was just plain awful.
