I have a very strong feeling that I will be getting bashed for liking this flick. All I can say is, BRING IT ON! What can I say, I have a soft spot for flicks like this and Because I Said So, which apparently everyone hated but me.
Now, a while back a news story broke about a letter that Lindsay Lohan received from the CEO at Morgan Creek Productions. The letter basically said that Lohan had been doing a terrible job during the filming of Georgia Rule, i.e. not showing up to work on time and having a non-caring attitude. The letter threatened Lohan by saying that they would pretty much sue her if she did not shape up. The letter even went into the fact that her excuses for not being at work were a bunch a B.S., considering they had evidence telling them that she was out partying all night. My question is, how did this letter even get out? I am sure it was leaked someway or the other. Either way, she obviously must have shaped up because now the movie is being released this weekend. The big question is whether or not she did a good job and could you tell she really did not care about the film. Well, you can find my answer in my review. The Plot: Georgia Rule stars Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday (two great teenage flicks that I really enjoyed), Felicity Huffman (Transamerica, “Desperate Housewives”), Jane Fonda (Monster In-Law) and Carry Elwes (Saw, Robin Hood: Men in Tights). The plot line to Georgia Rule contains a lot of twists and turns, which I will keep to a minimum to refrain from giving away anything. The basic plot deals with a troubled teenager, played by Lindsay Lohan, her mother, played by Felicity Huffman and her grandmother, played by Jane Fonda. So you have three generations of family. Rachel, played by Lohan, is your typical Californian 17-year old who has just graduated high school. She wants to spend the summer with her friends before going to college. Her parents force her to live with her Grandmother in a boring city called Hull, Idaho, to keep her out of trouble. When she arrives in the town, you can tell she is an outcast and that she is going to cause trouble. Her Grandmother, Georgia, played by Jane Fonda, is kind of a hard ass, which is where the film's title comes from. When she sets rules in her house, she refers to them as the “Georgia Rule.” While Rachel is staying with her Grandmother, her parents stay away. Rachel is set-up with a boring job working as a secretary in this boring town, so she decides to use her sexy and seductive ways to manipulate people. Trust me, I know this sounds a little boring, but there are so many plot twists that I do not want to give away. The movie will keep your mind spinning the entire time. Your eyes will also be spinning because of how amazing Lindsay Lohan looks. Wasn’t she really skinny recently though? Either way, she looked stunningly beautiful. The Review: Overall, the movie actually surprised me and turned out to be really good. The acting, even on Lohan’s part, was great. After all the negative stuff I heard about her in the media, I thought her acting was going to be awful. She gets such a terrible rap in the media. This goes to show that not everything you read is true. The movie really does make you feel for these characters. Felicity Huffman’s character as a drunk mom blended really well with Lohan’s rebellious teenager character. Jane Fonda topped everything off. Will a lot of you out there like this flick? I would say it is a toss up. I personally really enjoyed it and it kept me entertained throughout the entire movie, from the little comedic moments to the really sad and heartfelt moments. The Verdict: Should you spend the money to see it in theatres or wait for the rental? Though the movie is good, seeing in theatres is not really necessary. I give this flick 3.5 BDK’s because I feel that it can be enjoyed as either a rental or a matinée flick. You could take your girlfriend/boyfriend out to a matinée and then do dinner afterwards. Or you can wait for the rental, hence the 3.5 BDK rating. |
