Norfolk Slam
1st and 3rd Mondays
The Venue, 631 35th Street, Norfolk
Norfolk Slam is a bi-monthly slam competition held at The
Venue on 35th, the first and third Mondays of every month. The monthly slams
are being held to develop a team to send to the 2008 National Poetry Slam. This
is not your father's poetry reading! Slam poetry is a dynamic, performance
oriented genre wrapped in a competitive format. In addition to hosting some of
the finest local spoken word performers, we also hold an open mic reading
before each slam for those new to the scene to get their feet wet.

Henry Rollins - Provoked
September 30th
NorVa
Spoken Word Show - If Henry Rollins were a question on a
multiple choice quiz, the correct answer would be "D. All of the
above." Best known to some as the frenetic frontman for punk rock legends
Black Flag and latter the Rollins Band, and to others for his sharp-tongued
spoken performances, Henry Rollins is an actor and an author. He's a
businessman and a philanthropist. He's a GRAMMY-nominated singer and a
GRAMMY-winning spoken word artist. He's an ad pitchman, a USO veteran, a world
traveler and a TV host. And Above all else, he's a tireless performer,
averaging more than 100 shows a year for the past two and a half decades.
