Gladys Knight

Accompanied by a sixteen-piece band, Grammy Award-winner
Gladys Knight will perform R&B, soul and gospel classics as well as
selections from her recent CD “Before Me,” a set of jazz ballads and standards
showcasing Knight’s famously smooth, sultry voice.

Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra With Wynton Marsalis

Pulitzer Prize-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis is one of
the most accomplished jazz artists of his generation and he conducts the
world’s most swinging big band. Comprised of fifteen of today’s finest jazz musicians,
they feature the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Thelonious Monk.
Blues At The Beach

Beachstreet Starfish Pavilion at 17th Street, VA Beach
You won’t be “singing the blues” at this casual, yet
spirited festival that floods the oceanfront with the riveting sounds of one of
the most cherished musical styles of all time. Blues at the Beach brings
together local, regional, and national blues headliners, who take the stage for
a “jamming” weekend filled with unforgettable music. Workshops sponsored by the
Natchel’ Blues Network help to round out a festival that grows in popularity
each year. All concerts in the park are free.

has seen innumerable chart successes, McDonald remains an enduring presence in
popular music.

is a master flute player, musician, composer, painter, craftsman, poet, actor,
screenwriter, horseman and farmer. His From a Painted Cave performance here at
The American Theatre left his sold out crowd stunned and amazed.
Bob Dylan
September 25th
Ted Constant Convocation Center
The classic, definitive Bob Dylan will make his first-ever
stop to the Ted Constant Convocation Center with Elvis Costello and Amos Lee. Dylan has written more than 500
songs, sold more than 60 million records and has been proclaimed as a poet and
spokesman of a generation. His last three albums, “Time out of Mind,” “Love and
Theft,” and “Modern Times,” have been critically acclaimed as some of his best.
Dylan is set to release a greatest hits album this October.

Born of Portuguese and Cape Verdean descent, the incendiary
Sara Tavares is a singer, composer and guitarist. Blurring cultural boundaries
through her music, Tavares reflects her community by incorporating Portuguese
slang, Cape Verdean Crioulo, French and English into her lyrics. Her sweet
voice and gentle arrangements communicate freedom and love.

Virginia Symphony Orchestra presents: Rob Fisher leads
Leonard Bernstein’s showstoppers from “Fancy Free”, “Wonderful Town” and, of
course, “West Side Story” on its 50th Anniversary. Featuring twice
Tony-nominated actress Kelli O’Hara. She was nominated for her roles in The
Light in the Piazza and for her performance in the acclaimed revival of The
Pajama Game.
AT&T Sunrise to Sunset Acoustic Music Festival

Townpoint Park
From sunup to sundown, Town Point Park hosts some of the
region’s best-known (and soon to be known) acoustic musicians. BOB FM’s Hunter Hughes hosts “Sunrise on
Sundays” live from the park Sunday morning, followed by an all day program of
casual concerts featuring Julie Clark, Lewis McGehee, Kevin So, Susan Greenbaum
and many more, plus gourmet beverages, wine and foods available for purchase
throughout the day.
The O' Jays, Manhattans, And Millie Jackson

Ted Constant Convocation Center
The
O'Jays were one of Philadelphia soul's most popular and long-lived outfits
soul's greatest vocal group of the '70s. In their prime, the O'Jays' recordings
epitomized the Philly soul sound: smooth, rich harmonies backed by elaborate
arrangements, lush strings, and a touch of contemporary funk. Also performing
will be The Manhattans and Millie Jackson.
Vadim Gluzman, Violin

Vadim Gluzman fuses 19th century technique with the passion
and energy of the 21st century. Lauded by critics and audiences worldwide,
Gluzman became a favorite at The American Theatre after his stunning performances
with his wife, pianist Angela Yoffe, in 2000 & 2003.
