Country Music

Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder – September 22
Apparently these two will be releasing an instrumental cd together on August 1, 2006, so I’m guessing this tour is to promote that. They have an earlier release together, “Live at Charleston Music Hall in 2003”, which did pretty well. This "official ambassabor of bluegrass" has won eleven Grammy Awards.

Legends of Country Rock featuring Poco, Pure Prairie League & Firefall – September 24
These three are among the most popular and long-lasting country-rock groups around. Poco's recent releases include "Running Horse", "Keeping the Legend Alive", and "Bareback at Big Sky". Pure Prairie League’s biggest hits included "Let Me Love You Tonight" and "Amie." Vince Gill is a former lead singer of this group. Firefall’s biggest hits are "You Are the Woman", “Just Remember I Love You", "Strange Way, and "Staying with It”.

One of the biggest names on Ferguson’s lineup this year, LeAnne Rimes hardly needs me to write anything about her. This former child star, now adult star, is the first Country artist ever to achieve triple-platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). She is also only the second woman, along with Whitney Houston, ever to earn two Grammys. A couple of her bigger hits include "Blue", "How Do I Live", and "I Need You".

Hampton Roads Bluegrass Jamboree featuring Cherryholmes with Don Rigsby and Midnight Call – April 5
Now I know that country music and bluegrass music are not the same thing, but cut me some slack here. How long do you want this article to be, anyway? Cherryholmes (all one word) is a family group, made up of a dad, a mom, and four children. They’ve appeared on “The Grand Ole Opry” among other fun and special appearances. Don Rigsby plays the mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and dulcimer, which is definitely enough to spark my interest. I don’t know if he’ll be playing all of those in his show, but that’s still pretty darn nifty.

Image Kenny Rogers – April 22
Now, this guy I’m pretty familiar with. Thanks to my dad, I grew up with his music, and one of his songs includes my dad's favorite quote, “You’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em...” You’d be surprised how many applications dear old dad can find for that one. Kenny Rogers is the only artist to chart a record in each of the last six decades. “The Gambler” spawned about five movies and was turned in to a mini-series, of all things.
